Sec 2G3: Conserving Natural Habitats and Biodiversity
Sec 2G3 students explore biodiversity and conservation through an interdisciplinary journey that takes them from classroom learning and field experiences to creating vodcasts and leading community outreach, growing into purpose-driven changemakers for the environment.
Sec 2G3: Conserving Natural Habitats and Biodiversity
What can we do to conserve natural habitats and biodiversity?
This is the question that drives our Sec 2G3 students as they connect Applied Learning Programme (ALP), English Language, Geography, and Science through their PCM journey. Anchored in the big idea of Change — in mindset, in action, and in the way we see the world — students are challenged to think critically about the relationship between human choices and the natural environment.
Expose — Many lenses on one problem
Students explore biodiversity and conservation through multiple disciplines. In English Language, they engage with Singapore's conservation success stories, from the seagrass restoration project to the Eco-Link@BKE. In Geography, they examine how thoughtful city planning can soften ecological impact. In Science, they trace how overfishing, pollution, and climate change disrupt the balance of life — and during NX201: Science Explorer Room sessions, they discover and document biodiversity right on their own school campus. Through ALP, these issues are connected to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Singapore's Green Plan 2030, making clear that local actions carry global significance.
Learning does not stop at the classroom door. A talk by the Nature Society Singapore brings expert voices into the conversation, while guided learning journeys to nature parks like Pasir Ris Mangrove, the Rail Corridor, and Windsor Nature Park give students a first-hand encounter with Singapore's rich natural heritage.

Empower — Telling the story that matters
English Language weaves the disciplines together. Students develop perspective-taking skills by stepping into diverse roles: an environmentalist, a city planner, a bird-watching hobbyist, a private property developer, and a resident living near nature spaces. Their learning culminates in a 3-minute vodcast, where they advocate for conservation in a clear, compelling, and creative way.

Engage — From learners to guides
Students with a keen interest go even further. They learn to identify birds by sight and call, and pick up nature photography skills from a professional freelance photographer. Equipped with this knowledge, they lead a hands-on photography outreach at Bidadari Park — guiding participants to look closely, and to value the biodiversity that surrounds us in everyday life.

Growing as Changemakers and Purpose Driven Stewards
Throughout this journey, Beattyians develop 21st Century Competencies that matter — critical and adaptive thinking, effective communication, and civic literacy. They learn not just to understand sustainable living, but to practise it: in their habits, in their relationships, and in the way they engage with the environment and the world around them.
At the heart of it all is a simple but powerful belief: that young people, equipped with knowledge and the courage to act, can be a force for change — for themselves, for Singapore, and for the planet.
